Amaxia lepida(?)
DISTRIBUTION: Central & South America.
TYPE LOCALITY: Costa Rica.
BELIZE RECORDS: Belize Records: La Milpa; Lamanai; Las Cuevas..
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in black and white by Watson (1971) -
adult on plate 6f and female genitalia on plate 226b. Adult illustrated in
black and white by Hampson (1920) p. 26, fig. 9. I am not at all sure
of this ‘identification’ - unfortunately the Type Specimen is a female and
all of my specimens appear to be male so dissection of genitalia is no help.
Pat Haynes has made dissections of male specimens from Belize which may be
this species and has found them to be Amaxia tierna Schaus 1920 by
comparison with the figure of Type genitalia in Watson (1971).
NOTES: This genus is extremely complex and much work will be required to be
sure of identifications of specimens taken in Belize.
