Halysidota orientalis
DISTRIBUTION: Mexico to Bolivia and Brazil; Trinidad; Grenada.
TYPE LOCALITY: Trinidad.
BELIZE RECORDS: Pook's Hill; Greenhills; La Milpa.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult and genitalia illustrated by Watson (1980), figs.
21 (adult) and 70 and 71 (male genitalia).
NOTES: This species may be separated (Watson 1980) from the related (and sympatric)
species H. underwoodi by the presence of a dark longitudinal streak on the
tegulae
of underwoodi and the generally larger medial fascia on the forewing of
underwoodi.
To be absolutely certain that this species is orientalis it will be necessary to
dissect the genitalia.
