Idalus herois
DISTRIBUTION: Central & South America.
TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico.
BELIZE RECORDS: Augustine; Las Cuevas.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated by Watson
(1971) in fig. 21f (adult, black and white) and 114c,d
(male gemitalia). Adult illustrated in black and white by Hampson (1920)
p. 41, text fig. 34 and in colour by Druce (1884) pl. 73, fig. 20.
NOTES: there are slight differences in thoracic coloration
between my specimens and Hampson's description - I do not know whether
this is a normal part of variation or suggests this is a different species
from the one described from Mexico. I have not yet
dissected my specimens to compare their genitalia with the figures
of the Type's genitalia in Watson (1971)
