Melese laodamia

DISTRIBUTION: South & Central America.
TYPE LOCALITY: Panama.
BELIZE RECORDS: Greenhills; Pook's Hill.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated by Seitz (1925) plate 43, figs. f5 & f6 and by Druce (1884) plate 9, fig. 20. The female is 150% the size of the male and appears to come to light less readily. Belize specimens appear to be considerably lighter in ground colour than specimens in my collection from French Guyana and Trinidad..
NOTES: there is a slight question mark over this identification for the reasons mentioned above. It may be that the Belize population is a different subspecies.
