Pygarctia roseicapitis

DISTRIBUTION: southern USA; Central America?.
TYPE LOCALITY: USA.
BELIZE RECORDS: Greenhills.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated by Seitz (1925) plate 39, fig. g8.
NOTES: I am not at all happy about this ‘identification’ as there are a number of similar species and I have no other corroboration of the figure given in Seitz (which can be very unreliable at times) - it is not noted in Hampson (1901 or 1920) for example. The Type Locality is also rather worrying. This identification must therefore be regarded as very provisional, although Count Hervé de Toulgoët expressed the opinion (based on memory, from my photograph only) that it is probably correct. I only ever took specimens on one occasion - in 1997 at Greenhills - and have seen it nowhere else since in Belize.
