DISTRIBUTION: southern USA to Uruguay; Antilles.
TYPE LOCALITY: 'America'.
BELIZE RECORDS: Recorded by Meerman (1999) from Corozal, Stann Creek, Cayo and Toledo districts.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in colour by d’Abrera (1986) p. 123.
NOTES: the illustrated specimen is one from Dominica, West Indies, in my collection. It is of subspecies fuscatus. The subspecies vitis found in Belize has narrower and more defined forewing markings.
