DISTRIBUTION: C. & S. America (in a variety of subspecies).
TYPE LOCALITY: Venezuela.
BELIZE RECORDS: Pook's Hill; Greenhills; La Milpa; Lamanai; Augustine.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated in black and white and described
by Hampson (1898) page 245, text fig. 110. Also illustrated in colour by Seitz
(1925) plate 14, fig. b2 (who also illustrates ‘C. cingulatum’ Butler as
fig. b3 and ‘C. restrictum’ Butler as fig. b5).
NOTES: according to Hampson there
are three subspecies - restrictum, cingulatum and erubescens Butler - of
which my specimens most closely match cingulatum.
