DISTRIBUTION: Mexico, Cuba and Central America?
TYPE LOCALITY: Cuba.
BELIZE RECORDS: Pook's Hill (Pat Haynes record).
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in colour by Watson & Goodger (1986) pl.2 figs. 34 & 35.
NOTES: there is some minor doubt over the identity of this species. A related species S. gaumeri Druce has a Type Locality of Mexico and may be confused with this Cuban species. The male is illustrated - the female is larger and considerably paler yellow in colour.
