| A number of students come to Oxford specifically for the
purpose of studying for their A-levels at tutorial colleges or with
private tutors - in some cases even from overseas. For the right
person, with sufficient self-discipline and motivation, there is a lot
to be said for 'going independent' - not least in terms of time and
money, as three A-levels can usually be taken in just one year
with a tutor rather than the usual two years taken at school. I can
usually tell from an initial meeting whether or not a student could
benefit from this approach and, if I feel such an approach is not for
them, can
suggest other possibilities.
For those who decide to follow the path of individual tuition, due to my links with an established examination centre I can organise examination facilities - as well as laboratory facilities for biology practical classes if these are needed. I can also recommend other experienced, professional tutors to teach other subjects and to help with UCAS. Help in finding accommodation with one of Oxford's numerous professional student 'landladies' can also be provided if needed.
