Urania leilus




Distribution: South America; Trinidad; a vagrant in the Lesser Antilles.
Type locality: Surinam; French Guyana.
E. Caribbean records: St. Kitt's; Dominica.
Grenadines records: Union (Daudin, see below).
Method of identification: illustrated in colour by Seitz (1925) pl. 138, fig. a1.
Notes: this species is found in Trinidad and is occasionally reported further north, particularly after hurricanes. The illustrated specimen was taken by Jacques Daudin on Union Is. on the 28th of July 1983. Other specimens were taken by him on Union Is. on the 10th of September 1988 and 10th of July 1993.
