Distribution: southern USA; C. & S. America; Antilles.
Type locality: Florida.
E. Caribbean records: St. Martin; Montserrat; Dominica; Guadeloupe; St. Lucia.
Grenadines records: the Exeter University Grenadines Expedition collection has a specimen without any locality or other data.
Method of identification: by comparison with specimens in my collection from the West Indies identified as this species by Bernard Lalanne-Cassou, Paris. Adult illustrated in black and white by Hampson (1908) p. 548, text fig. 123.
