Distribution: South and Central America; Antilles.
Type locality: French Guyana.
Synonyms: Leucania extenuata Guenee 1852; Leucania tayaudi Guenee 1852; Leucania dorsalis Walker 1856.
E. Caribbean records: Guadeloupe; St. Lucia; Barbados; Grenada.
Grenadines records: Union (Daudin, Sept. 1995, Sept. 1998, Nov. 1997); Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Union, Frigate, Petite Martinique (E.U. Exp., No. 98).
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Hampson (1905a) p. 93, fig. 9. My specimens from elsewhere the West Indies kindly identified by Bernard Lalanne-Cassou, Paris. Genitalia from my female Union Is. specimens match to genitalia in specimens identified by Bernard Lalanne-Cassou. Adult & Genitalia illustrated in colour on website on French Antilles Lepidoptera by Zagatti, Lalanne-Cassou & Le Duchat d'Aubigny.
Notes: this complex genus is in the process of extensive revision for the West Indies by Dr. Morton S. Adams (in press) (John Rawlins pers. comm., 2001).
