Distribution: tropical and subtropical America.
Type locality: locality unknown.
Synonyms: Melipotis sinualis Harvey 1877.
E. Caribbean records: Guadeloupe.
Grenadines records: Union (Daudin, Sept. 1998).
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Kimball (1965) pl. 17, fig. 9. Illustrated in black and white by Richards (1939) pl. 1, fig. 7 (adult) and pl.6, fig. 1 (genitalia). Adult & Genitalia illustrated in colour on website on French Antilles Lepidoptera by Zagatti, Lalanne-Cassou & Le Duchat d'Aubigny.
Notes: this is one of the more characteristic Melipotis species.
