Spodoptera latifascia

Distribution: tropical America.
Type locality: Jamaica.
Synonyms: Prodenia variolosa Walker 1857; Prodenia cosmioides Walker 1858.
E. Caribbean records: Montserrat; Antigua; Guadeloupe; Barbados.
Grenadines records: Union (Daudin, Sept. 1998 - one male).
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Todd & Poole (1980) figs 10 & 11 (adult) and figs. 33 & 47 (genitalia). Adult & Genitalia illustrated in colour on website on French Antilles Lepidoptera by Zagatti, Lalanne-Cassou & Le Duchat d'Aubigny.
Notes: dissection is probably needed to separate this species from S. ornithogalli with certainty, although according to Todd & Poole (1980) the latter species does not penetrate into the Eastern Caribbean (though Lalanne-Cassou's internet record for Guadeloupe appears to contradict this).
