Distribution: southern USA; Jamaica; Dominican Republic; Haiti; Cuba; Puerto Rico; St. Croix.
Type Locality: Dominican Republic.
Synonyms: Calidota jamaicensis Strand 1919; Halysidota laqueata Edwards 1887 (incorrect synonymy); Halysidota cubensis Grote (incorrect synonymy).

Notes: this may not be one species throughout its range. The larval fodplant is noted by Hampson (1901) as Guettarda elliptica.
