Distribution: southern USA to Argentina; Antilles.
Type locality: 'America'.
Synonyms: Erinnyis stheno Geyer 1829; Erinnyis conerosa Grote & Robinson 1865; Erinnyis pallida Grote 1865; Anceryx rhaebus Boisduval 1870; Erinnyis jamaicensis B.P.Clark 1935.

Method of identification: illustrated in colour by d'Abrera p. 99.
Notes: the subspecies jamaicensis Clark does not appear to be a sustainable entity. Forewing coloration varies tremendously - the illustrated specimen is very dark.
