Distribution: Canada to Argentina; Antilles.
Type locality: 'America'.
Synonyms: Dupo jussieuae Hubner 1819; Sphinx strigilis Vogel 1822.

Method of identification: illustrated in colour by d'Abrera (1986) p. 125.
Notes: unlike the similar species E. vitis the hindwing margin of this species is suffused with pink.
