Distribution: tropical and subtropical America.
Type locality: 'America'.
Synonyms: Phalaena Noctua hieroglyphica Cramer 1777; Diphthera elegans Hubner 1809; Noropsis fastuosa Guenee 1852.
Source of record: listed by Gowdey (1926) p. 68 (as 'Euglyphia hieroglyphica').
Method of identification: illustrated in colour by Kimball (1965) pl. 5, fig. 8 (as 'Noropsis hieroglyphica').
Notes: an extremely widespread and common species throughout the Americas.
