Distribution: USA through tropical and subtropical America.
Type locality: Dominican Republic; Honduras.
Synonyms: Laphygma orbicularis Walker 1857; Laphygma caudata Walker 1869.
Source of record: M.J.C.B. collection.
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Todd & Poole (1980) figs. 18 & 19 (adults) and 38 & 52 (genitalia).
Notes: this species was previously identified as Spodoptera sunia Guenee. The real Xylomyges sunia Guenee 1852 is the species currently known as 'Neogalea esula' and is illustrated here under the subfamily Cuculliinae as Neogealea sunia.
