Distribution: Guatemala to Brazil; Antilles.
Type locality: Surinam.
Synonyms: Prodenia rubrifusa Hampson 1909.

Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Todd & Poole (1980) figs. 13 & 14 (adult) and figs. 36 & 48 (genitalia).
Notes: the form from Puerto Rico and Jamaica has a pinkish tinge, as illustrated.
