Distribution: tropical America.
Type locality: 'Americae Meridionalis'.
Synonyms: Phalaena commelinae J.E. Smith 1797;
Phalaena marmorea Sepp 1840.

Notes: fresh specimens are easily recognised from the dark longitudinal marks on
the thorax.
Worn specimens probably need to be dissected to distinguish them from S. androgea
with certainty.
