Spodoptera ornithogalli

Distribution: eastern North America from southern Canada to Florida; Antilles east to Antigua (Todd and Poole (1980) note it as being absent from Jamaica).
Type locality: North America.
Synonyms: Prodenia eudiopta Guenee 1852; Prodenia flavimedia Harvey 1875; Prodenia lineatella Harvey 1875; Prodenia praefica formeudioptoides Barnes & Benjamin 1923.
Source of record: listed by Gowdey (1926) p. 63 (as 'Prodenia ornithogalli').
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Todd & Poole (1980) figs. 5 & 6 (adults) and 31 & 45 (genitalia).
Notes: Todd and Poole (1980) state specifically that the species is absent from Jamaica, so Gowdey's record may be a misidentification for latifascia or pulchella. The larva is the 'Yellow Striped Armyworm'.
