Distribution: southern USA; Central and South America; Antilles.
Type locality: Surinam.
Synonyms: Margaronia virginalis Hubner 1825; Pyralis flegialis Poey 1832; Paradosis villosalis Zeller 1852; Margarodes flegyalis Guenee; Margarodes phantasmalis Guenee 1854.
Source of record: Listed by Gowdey (1926) (as'Margaronia flegia').
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white (as 'Paradosis flegia') by Amsel (1956) pl. 98, fig. 2 (adult) and pl. 3, fig. 1 (genitalia) .
