RETAKERS

Many of my students are retaking their A-levels, either while still at school or while working part-time. The degree of help that I give with this varies according to means and needs - in some cases I am there simply to mark past papers and provide occasional guidance; in other cases the individual is effectively retaking from 'scratch' and is my full-time student.

Often the most difficult part of any retake is finding your way through the administration involved in transferring practical marks to the next sitting and (in the case of modular exams.) knowing which modules to 'bank' and which to retake. If the retake is to be a one-term retake in January it may be necessary to change examination boards - another difficult decision to make as there are many differences between the syllabuses of the different boards and it may be better to wait the whole year and retake on your existing board. Much of my time in September is spent discussing various permutations with students and helping them make the decision which is best for them.

As the administrative procedures are not at all obvious in many cases it is a good idea to contact me as soon as possible if you wish to retake, to avoid possible heartache through being unaware of the many administrative pitfalls.
