Spragueia margana

Distribution: southern USA to Brazil; Antilles.
Type locality: West Indies.
Synonyms: Grapholita subapicana Walker 1863; Agrophila rudisana Walker 1865; Spragueia inornata Grote 1882; Spragueia sordida Grote 1883; Emmelia variegata Moeschler 1890; Spragueia canofusa Hampson 1898; Spragueia tarasca Schaus 1904.
Source of record: listed by Gowdey (1926) p. 65; Jamaica is a Type Locality of Spragueia canofusa.
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Hampson (1910b) p. 666, text fig. 188 and in colour (as 'Heliocontia margana') by Kimball (1965) pl. 4, figs. 30 and 36.
Notes: the larval foodplant is given by Poole (1989) as Melochia carihosifolia.
