DISTRIBUTION: Mexico to Colombia & Ecuador.
TYPE LOCALITY: Nicaragua.
BELIZE RECORDS: Greenhills.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in colour by d’Abrera (1995) p. 125 and by Druce (1884) plate 18, figs. 2 & 3.
NOTES: this identification does not appear to be in any great doubt. The record of 'Automeria macphaili' reported by Buckmaster et al. (1994) from the Upper Raspaculo is probably referable to this species, according to Meerman (1999).
