DISTRIBUTION: Canada to Uruguay (in a number of races).
TYPE LOCALITY: USA (New York).
BELIZE RECORDS: recorded by Meerman (1999) from Cayo and Toledo (ssp. decoris Rothschild) and Corozal (ssp. quintanensis Lemaire).
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in colour by d'Abrera (1995) p. 63.
NOTES: the illustrated specimen is a male from Mississippi, USA, in my collection. This species is highly variable throughout its wide range.
