DISTRIBUTION: Mexico to Panama.
TYPE LOCALITY: Costa Rica.
BELIZE RECORDS: Greenhills.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in colour by d’Abrera (1995) p. 149 and by Druce (1884) plate 20, figs. 4 & 5.
NOTES: the male (illustrated here) of this species, unusually for this complex genus, is characteristic and the identification appears to be sound. The female is as difficult to identify as all other Hylesia species.
