DISTRIBUTION: Mexico to Argentina.
TYPE LOCALITY: Surinam.
BELIZE RECORDS: Greenhills; Pook's Hill; Lamanai; Augustine.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated in colour by d'Abrera (1995) p. 73.
NOTES: this is a very common and widespread species unlikely to be confused for anything else. There is considerable sexual dimorphism, as illustrated.
