DISTRIBUTION: Mexico to Ecuador (in a variety of forms).
TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico.
BELIZE RECORDS: Greenhills; La Milpa.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: illustrated in colour by d'Abrera (1995) p. 75.
NOTES: I originally wrongly identified this species as S. colla in my 1997/98 unpublished report on moths collected in Belize, but Jan Meerman kindly corrected this. The form from Belize may be ssp. grisea Lemaire.
