Oospila venezuelata form partita
DISTRIBUTION: C. & S. America. Belize is noted as a locality by Cook & Scoble (1995).
TYPE LOCALITY: (species) Venezuela; (subspecies) Panama.
BELIZE RECORDS: Pook’s Hill; Greenhills; La Milpa; Lamanai.
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated by Seitz (1925) plate 5, fig. h4
(as sp. ‘partita’). Adult and genitalia are illustrated by Cook & Scoble (1995)
plate 1, fig. 19 and fig. 70 (adult) and figs. 141 and 195 (male and female genitalia).
NOTES: this identification requires confirmation by dissection. Form partita
has a hooked extension of the marginal
brown-yellow band extending upward into the centre of the forewing.
Cook & Scoble (1995) also list Oospila ruptimacula Warren as
specifically from Belize in their comprehensive review of this genus. In addition
the following Oospila species are found in neighbouring countries:
O. asmura Druce; O. rosipara Warren; O. concinna Warren; O. lilacina
Warren and O. confundaria Moschler, and may be found in Belize in the future.
