MOTHS OF BELIZE
SPECIES LISTS BY FAMILY
12(b). Geometridae: Geometrinae

SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
The 'Emeralds' (GEOMETRINAE) are all small or quite small species (15-30 mm in wingspan)
and, as their name implies, are almost all a bright emerald green in
ground coloration, occasionally with an additional brown or golden-brown
wing maculation. The works by Pitkin (1993) and Cook and Scoble (1995)
illustrate and catalogue about half of the aproximately 450 species of
neotropical Geometrinae (Cook & Scoble, 1995). For the remaining
genera I rely at present upon the outdated and frequently wrong Seitz
(1925). I am grateful to M. Claude
Herbulot of Paris for having looked at some of my material and for helping me
with identifications where noted (the large numbers of errors which remain
are mine and not his!)
