Sphacelodes vulneraria




Distribution: southern USA; Central and South America; Antilles.
Type locality: Brazil.
Synonyms: Sphacelodes brunneata Warren 1907; Sphacelodes floridensis Holland 1884; Sphacelodes fusilineata Walker 1860.
E. Caribbean records: St. Lucia; Martinique; Nevis; St. Kitt's; St. Martin; Guadeloupe; Dominica; Barbados; Grenada.
Grenadines records: Bequia, Canouan, Mayero, Union, Petite Martinique (E.U. Exp., No. 3).
Method of identification: my specimens kindly identified by M. Claude Herbulot of Paris. Adult & Genitalia illustrated in colour on website on French Antilles Lepidoptera by Zagatti, Lalanne-Cassou & Le Duchat d'Aubigny.
Notes: the species is sexually dimorphic, as illustrated. There is some confusion over the application of names to this spcies, as indicated by the synonymy.
