Distribution: southern USA to Argentina; Antilles.
Type locality: unknown.
Synonyms: Racheospila jucunda Felder & Rogenhofer 1875; Racheospila marginiplaga Walker 1861; Phalaena geometra ocellata Stoll 1790; Racheospila rufidorsaria Snellen 1874; Phorodesma stollaria Guenee 1858.
E. Caribbean records: St. Vincent; Grenada; St. Lucia.
Grenadines records: Bequia, Quatre, Mustique, Canouan, Mayero, Union, Petite Martinique (E.U. Exp., No 103 (No. 103 shared with single specimen of S. frondaria)).
Method of identification: by comaprison with material identified in my collection by comparison of genitalia with the figures in Ferguson (1985). Similar species found in this area include S. isolata Warren 1900, illustrated in colour by Zagatti, Lalanne-Cassou and Le Duchat d'Aubigny (internet) and S. cupedinaria Grote 1880, also illustrated in colour by Zagatti, Lalanne-Cassou and Le Duchat d'Aubigny (internet). S. isolata has the dark pactch on the forewing tornus less sharply angled in than my specimens form the Grenadines and S. cupedinaria
