SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
The 'Emeralds' (GEOMETRINAE) are all small or quite small species (15-30 mm in wingspan) and, as their name implies, are almost all a bright emerald green in ground coloration, occasionally with an additional brown or golden-brown wing maculation. The works by Pitkin (1993) and Cook and Scoble (1995) illustrate and catalogue about half of the aproximately 450 species of neotropical Geometrinae (Cook & Scoble, 1995). For the remaining genera I rely at present upon the outdated and frequently wrong Seitz (1925).

GRENADINES SPECIES
I have catalogued two species of this subfamily from the Grenadines, as listed below. Please click on underlined species names to go to a colour illustration of the adult and brief information on the species.

The material which I received from the Grenadines was too badly damaged (even, in most cases, lacking abdomens so that even genitalial dissection was impossible). It appears, however, that the following two species are present in the material I have from the Grenadines at present:

The genus Synchlora
  • Synchlora gerularia Hubner 1823
  • Synchlora frondaria Guenee 1857
