SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
The AGARISTINAE tend to be quite brightly coloured, ranging in size from
medium to quite large, and are often confused with Tiger Moths (Arctiidae).
They are sometimes elevated to a family in their own right, the
Agaristidae. There are about 300 species in this subfamily, the majority
of which are found in the tropics. The American species are reviewed by
Kiriakoff (1977).
