Leucania humidicola
Distribution: South and Central America; Antilles.
Type locality: French Guyana.
Synonyms: Leucania extenuata Guenee 1852;
Leucania tayaudi Guenee 1852;
Leucania dorsalis Walker 1856.
Source of record: listed by Gowdey (1926) p. 62 (as 'Cirphis humidicola').
Method of identification: illustrated in black and white by Hampson (1905a)
p. 93, fig. 9. My specimens from elsewhere in the West Indies
kindly identified by Bernard Lalanne-Cassou, Paris, who has also identified some of my
Jamaican specimens as Leucania dorsalis but does not regard this as a synonym
of L. humidicola.
Notes: this complex genus is in the process of extensive revision for the West Indies
by Dr. Morton S. Adams
(in press) (John Rawlins pers. comm., 2001).
