SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
the subfamily NYMPHULINAE includes a number of very similar highly colourful species,
often with a characteristic row of metallic gold dots on the hindwings margins. The majority of
the larvae of Nymphulines are aquatic. Heppner (1995) lists 248 named species of this
subfamily from the Neotropics.
