| BACK TO LIST OF MOTH FAMILIES |

The SEMATURIDAE are a small, mainly neotropical family, containing about 35 species. The genus Apoprogones is tropical African, but the other three genera in the family - Nothus (4 species); Coronidia (4 species) and Homidiana (20 species) are tropical American. Coronidia and Homidiana are small species, with wingspans up to 60 mm and have short tails and are colourful in appearance, resembling small Brassolid butterflies. The four species of Nothus, by contrast, are up to 80 mm in wingspan, with long tails, and are marked with sombre browns and ochres.

I catalogue three species of this subfamily from Jamaica. Please click on any underlined name to go to a colour image of the species, where available (and sometimes it genitalia) and brief details of the species .

The genus Nothus
  • Nothus aegistus Fabricius 1793
