DISTRIBUTION: C. & S. America; Greater Antilles; Trinidad; Grenada.
TYPE LOCALITY: Surinam.
NICARAGUA RECORDS: .
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated in black and white by Hampson (1901) page 84, text fig. 61 and in colour by Seitz (1925) pl. 53, fig. h4.
NOTES: specimens of this species in my collection from Grenada, French Guyana and Jamaica are quite variable, which raises the question of whether they are all one species. If they are not, specimens from Nicaragua may be referrable to a new species.
