DISTRIBUTION: central America.
TYPE LOCALITY: Costa Rica.
NICARAGUA RECORDS: Bartola (MJCB).
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: adult illustrated in black and white by Watson (1971) pl. 15, fig. b.
NOTES: the very similar Phaeomolis polystria Schaus is also recorded by Michel Laguerre from Bartola. P. polystria appears to have more southern affinities than P. vampa as it has a Type Locality of French Guyana.
