DISTRIBUTION: Americas.
TYPE LOCALITY: 'North America'
NICARAGUA RECORDS: Domitila (M.J.C.B.).
METHOD OF IDENTIFICATION: by comparison with specimens in my collection from throughout tropical America. Unlikely to be confused with any other species.
NOTES: this species exists throughout its range in four different subspecies, differing mostly in the ground-colour of fore- and hind-wings. The subspecies illustrated here is ssp. ornatrix Linnaeus. It is possible that some of the other forms may be present in Nicaragua.
