SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
This subfamily CRAMBINAE possess characteristic wide, forward-projecting palps and rest with their wings curled tightly around their bodies. The wings often have longitudinal striping (Scoble 1992). Larvae feed internally as stem-borers on grasses and other monocotyledonous plants - many species are pests on sugarcane, rice and other narrow-leaved crops. Heppner (1995) lists 535 named species in this subfamily from the Neotropics.
