MORE ABOUT MATTHEW

Matthew Barnes

I have been a full-time, professional, specialist private biology tutor since 1989, tutoring up to 55 hours per week.

I have no plans to retire and, unlike the many graduate students and part-timers currently advertising as 'tutors' post-covid, I will not suddenly stop teaching you if a better job comes along!

I am totally independent and do not work via an agency or college and there is no 'cut' to a middleman.

MY QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
BA/MA in Zoology from Oxford University.
MSc (with 'distinction') and DIC in Applied Entomology from Imperial College, London.
Diploma in Tropical Agricultural Development from Reading University.
Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
Between 1989 and 2014 I was a professional private biology tutor in Oxford (teaching GCSE/IGCSE and A-level on all of the UK specifications, plus IB) and was widely regarded as 'Oxford's premier private biology tutor'.

I was also one of the five founders of the highly successful Oxford International College.

In 2013 (long before Covid) I went fully online with my tuition and moved to Devon in 2014.

I have now taught students online throughout the UK as well as in 42 other countries.

MY RESEARCH EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
Work on viral control of insect forest pests at the Institute of Virology, Oxford.
Work on insect coffee pests in Jamaica.
Regular collecting expeditions to the West Indies and central America to study moths (see my website on TROPICAL MOTHS).
I am currently writing a book on the larger moths of the Eastern Caribbean.
