SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
The subfamily ODONTIINAE reaches its peak of development in the drier parts of the temperate old world, although representatives are found throughout the world. Although they resemble Pyraustines ther are technical differences in the tympanal organs which separate the two taxa. Heppner lists 44 named species in this subfamily from the Neotropics.
