MY SERVICES

WHAT I TEACH:
I tutor both GCSE/IGCSE and A-level on the AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL, WJEC and CIE boards, plus the IB, EB and pre-U.

HOW I TEACH:
All tuition is now conducted online. Tuition is based solely on the student's specification/syllabus.

I assess what is needed free of charge (by asking the student for an annotated copy of their specification/syllabus) and make an individual study plan before we start.

I give, and explain to the student in each tutorial, board-specific notes based on four-colour annotated diagrams. These are e-mailed in advance for the student to print-off and have in front of them and are simultaneously available on my electronic interactive whiteboard during the tutorial.

I send the student a CD of all the past papers and mark schemes for their board. The student can mark the papers themselves or send them to me for marking.

For full-time students the procedure is the same except that I make no assumptions about prior knowledge and work methodically through the syllabus.

I will work with any method that suits the student. However I insist that we always work in a methodical fashion. The best students learn biology but, more importantly, they learn how to study.

WHO I TEACH:
Students at school needing extra help (usually one hour per week).

Students (including mature students) studying full-time with me 'from scratch'. An A-level can normally be completed in under 90 hours in just one year.

Students retaking examinations. Students taking intensive revision courses.

WHERE I TEACH:
I no longer teach in person in Oxford and have moved to Devon. All tuition is now conducted online thanks to remarkable modern technology that makes online tutorials as good as (or, in my opinion, better than) face-to-face tuition. There is no travelling time, cost or disruption associated with online tuition, you get the best tutors rather than who is available locally and the student is more relaxed and better focused.

I hear a lot of uninformed objections to online tuition from people who have not tried it (I offer a free trial tutorial for this reason). 95% of people who try online tuition agree that it is as good as, or better than, face-to-face tuition. WHEN I TEACH:
I am a full-time, professional tutor. I have not yet had to turn away a student in 30 years and will always find a slot for you. But don't leave it too late as I can teach up to 60 hours per week in term time and the best slots go very quickly.
