SUBFAMILY DESCRIPTION
the subfamily PHYCITINAE is a large, worldwide but predominantly tropical subfamily. The adults generally have a characteristic greyish coloration to the forewing, although some may have this broken with various shades of bright orange, yellow and other bright colours. The American Phycitinae have been monographed (without illustrations of adults) by Heinrich (1956). Heppner (1995) catalogues 642 named species in this subfamily from the Neotropics.
